18-YEAR-OLDS HARD ON CROCKERY AT BURNHAM CAMP

CHRISTCHURCH, Yesterday (PA>. Damage estimated at more than £20(1 in breakages and losses of cutlery and crockery was done by 18-year-olds doing compulsory military training at Burnham during the past seven weeks. With the entry of these youths to Burnham, crockery for the first time replaced the old-time tinware. and the camp commandant, L’.eut.-Colonel J. A. Worsnop, said today that as this loss had all occurred in the messes used solely by the men, each soldier had had 5s taken off his last pay. It was obvious that much of the damage and loss was due to carelessness, as since the soldiers had been asked ot pay for the damage out of their own pockets, the position had cons derably improved.
