Australian Military Observer Team To Go To Malaya
CANBERRA, July 19.—The Acting Prime Minister, Mr Fadden. announced tonight that the Australian Government has decided to send a small team of military observers to Malaya. He added: “The sole purpose of the visit is to study at first-hand all aspects of the campaign against Communist guerrilla forces, and to acquire informat'on and experience of value to the Australian armed services. At the same time the benefit of experience in jungle warfare of members of the team would be at the disposal of the British authorities in Malaya if desired. The proposal to send a team has been welcomed by the United Kingdom Government and the service com-manders-in-chief in Singapore.
The team will be under the leadership of Major-General W. Bridgel’ord, Quartermaster-General of the Australian Military Forces. It will include a Royal Australian Navy officer, five army officers and an R.A.A.F. officer. It is expected the team will remain in Malaya for approximately one month.
