FIRE IN LARGE HUT INMIGRANT CAMP; PEOPLE PANIC

MELBOURNE, June 4 (Recd. 11.4 p.m.)—When a fire broke out in a large hut at the Brooklyn, Melbourne, migrant camp, 210 new Australians rushed in panic from the building. Many suffered burns, ten being admitted to hospital. Some were burned by tearing their way through partitions to escape from cubicles. Most of the migrants lost all their possessions. The building, which was originally an army store, was half destroyed before firemen brought the blaze under control. The camp accommodates 800. Those burned out were transferred to another camp.
