Doctors Must Not Order Beverages In Prescriptions
LONDON, May 17 (Recd. 7.15 pm). —The Ministry of Health has advised all medical practitioners working under the National Health Scheme that they must not prescribe whisky, brandy, gin and other alcoholic beverages. If a stimulant of this type is required the doctors must order rectified spirit, which is pure medicinal alcohol.
An advisory list of about 125 preparations which should be regarded as food and not as drugs, and should therefore not be prescribed free, has also been issued by the Central Health Services Council.—Special N.Z.P.A. Correspondent.
