Y.W.C.A. CONFERENCE

The Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand, is holding a Members' Conference at the Majestic Hotel, Paraparaumu Beach, from May 16 to 20 inclusive; this will be followed by a two days’ Staff Conference. Among the 40 members are representatives from Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The Y.W.C.A. in a Changing World" is the theme for study and discussion and the findings of the conference will be forwarded to two Y.W.C.A. world gatherings, one in Ontario, Canada, In August, 1950, when New Zealand will be represented by Miss Hazel Williamson formerly General Secretary of the Dunedin Y.W.C.A. and the other a Quadrennial World Council meeting to be held in Beirut in 1951, at which N.Z. Y.W.C.A. hopes to have representation. Hostess at the conference is Lady Smith and the executives are Miss A. Louise Burton (National General Secretary) and Miss Helen Swindell (National Youth Secretary). At the opening session a special welcome was given to Miss A. M. Aitken, the new General Secretary from Dunedin, Miss Alisa Blakey, recently returned to N.Z. after several years in the Y.W.C.A. abroad and Miss H. Booth, who recently arrived from England to take up the position of Activities Secretary for the Christchurch Associatien.
