KING’S COLLEGE WIN ANNUAL RUGBY MATCH AGAINST COLLEGIATE

AUCKLAND, Last Night (Special)— Holding a territorial superiority for almost the entire game, King’s College defeated Wanganui Collegiate School in the annual Rugby football match this morning by 14 points (two tries, one converted, and two penalty goals), to nil. It was King’s seventh successive win over Wanganui. There were occasional bright incidents, but for the most part play was ragged because of faulty handling and passing in the lineouts. The two packs were well matched but King’s had much the better of the scrums. Wanganui failed to pack tightly and was slow in heeling the ball. These weaknesses caused it to be pushed off the ball repeatedly. After having gained possession, Wanganui backs were unimpressive and the few runs they made brought*little advantage. King’s rearguard had greater thrust and shaped well in the second half. A couple of minutes after this spell started King’s scored its first try with the best movement of the match. The forwards heeled to Irwin near the sideline and from him the ball passed crisply out to McKenzie on the opposite wing, who crossed at the corner. The best feature of Wanganui’s play was its sure tackling. Irwin gave splendid passes at halfback for King’s and Hare was a hard-working forward for Wanganui. The only score in the first spell was a penalty goal by Morris. King’s second try was gained by Kimpton in a scramble for the ball over the line. Morris converted and finally kicked another penalty fcoal. _____
