COUNCIL HAS FIXED NEW CHARGES FOR OPERA HOUSE HIRE
The charges for the hire of the Opera House by travelling companies and by local organisations have been revised by the Wanganui City Council. These prices were approved at a special meeting of the Wanganui City Council this week. The town clerk, Mr. C. R. White, said yesterday that the revision of the Opera House charges had been gone into thoroughly. Information had been received of the charges made at cities of comparable size, where the facilities were'on a line with those at the Opera House. The whole question had been investigated thoroughly, especially as the old charges had been in operation for many \ears. The chargee for professional travelling companies are as follow:—Charg. ing more than £l, £4O for week nights and £5O for Saturdays and public holidays; charging £1 and under, £35 and £45; charging 15s and under, £3O and £4O; charging 10s and under, £25 and £34: charging 7s 6d and under* £2O and £27; charging 5s and under, £l5 and £2O. Matinee charges are half of the above rates. The hire of the Grand piano is £5 5s and the charging for lighting is at 8d a unit for all power used.
The following charges were approved foi local organisations:—Local concerts, performances and dramatic productions, £l2 a night: professional wrestling and boxing contests. £l5; amateur wrestling and boxing contests. £10; public meetings (free). £8 public meetings tadmission charre). £10; concerts and recitals by local professional teachers, £10; school concerts. £8: entertainments of educational value approved by the council, £8: prize-giving ceremonies. £6; wool sales, £6 for morning, £5 for afternoon, £lO for evening and £2O for all day; charity performances, £6 for where the service of all performers and orchestra (exclusive of stage hands, carting, advertising, etc.) and £lO for performances approved bv the committee where payment is made for the services of performers, rehearsals £1 10s for mornings and a'Ternoon':. £3 *or evenings and £6 fo* all dav; S ,s turd n vs and nublic hnlld«’" (all bookings). £2O: matinees, half of these rates; S”nd°v re]i«*lo"s (afternoon or evening). £6; Sunday enter*a’nments of educational value (afternoon or night), £6; Sunday rehearsals. £2 for mornings or afternoons. £4 for evenings and £8 for nV day.
