BANNED CAPPING REVUE BOOKS SOLD OPENLY IN STUDENTS’ PROCESSION

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).—ln spite of the ban imposed on the sale of the Auckland University College capping revue book, hundreds ot copies went into circulation today. They were openly offered by students to spectators wno lined the streets while the annual graduation week procession passed through the city. Then 1 was no sign of the books when the procession assembled outside the university college. However, 15 minutes later they were being sold freely from several floats and by men and women students mingling with the crowd. Some were sold at more than double their original value. The sale of the revue book was stopped by the executive of the Students’ Association on the ground that the "majority of students and the public would not approve of the tone of the publication.” It was considered to be unsuitable for general distribution. Steps were taken by the executive on Wednesday to impound all copies of the publication and it was estimated that at least 4000 were in its hands. However, another 1000 copies are understood to have been distributed before the ban was imposed and it is believed this stock provided the books that were sold in the streets today.
