MESSRS. BAXTER AND HILL CRITICISE EACH OTHER
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA) Mr. K. McL. Baxter, secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, replying today to comments by Mr. T. Hill, secretary of the Waterside Workers' Union, of the recent waterfront settlement, said: “Mr. Hill is undoubtedly annoyed by the exposure of collaboration with the Tory Government. The Federation of Labour is certain that members of the Waterside Workers’ Union are not loyal to the interests of political and industrial labour, and it would be more in keeping with the traditions of the watersiders if Mr. Hill would give them a right to express, by secret ballot, whether they desire to remain loyal to the genuine Labour movement”
Mr. Hill said tonight: "It is less than one mile to the Wellington waterfront. Mr. Baxter is welcome at any time to come down. However, it he lacks the courage to do so, I would be quite happy to engage the Town Hall to debate the issues with him.”
