This was approved by delegates 10 the annual meeting today, following a Southland notice of motion to alter the rules to the effect.
Mr. H. S. Strang (Southland), said that New Zealand had always favoured replacements throughout a match, Rugby Union was an amateur game
and it was within the spirit of amateurism to have replacements. Criticism of the date of selecting Now Zealand teams and their assembly last season was raised by Mr. T. R. Booker (North Otago). He thought teams were announced loc
i lose to the date o,f tests and Ihej were not assembled early enough tc allow the players to become fully acI |Uainled. Mr. E. Kerr (Otago) said Ih< motion seemed 1o be the outcome of a decline in New Zealand’s Rugby prestige last year. New Zealand's turn would come again I They could not contract outside the laws. It was explained that the law allowed a team to be assembled three day:: before a Test match. A motion by Mr. Booker that lhe All Black team be announced sever days before the Test and assembled on the following Tuesday was defeated.
