MAN CHARGED WITH SUNDAY ENTERTAINMENT WITHOUT PERMISSION
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA)— While Auckland people may dance till 1 o’clock on Sunday mornings, the people of Wellington may not dance after midnight on Saturdays. This was stated before Mr M. B. Scully, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, when Frederick Carr, managing director of New Zealand Attractions Ltd., appeared on a charge of transacting business on a Sunday and on a ;second charge of holding an entertainment open to the public on a Sunday without the written consent of the Wellington City Council. Sub-Inspector E. Thomas, who appeared for the police, withdrew the first charge
A police sergeant, in evidence, said Ik had gained admittance to the Majestic Cabaret at. 12.20 a.m. on April 2 by a side door, which was locked. He was admitted by an attendant. About 70 couples were dancing and about an equal number were sitting at tables. Decision was reserved.
