“RED DEAN” DESCRIBED AS A “SINGULARLY FOOLISH PERSON”

CANBERRA, April 21 (Recd. 7.5 p.m.)—The Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies, in the House of Representatives today, described Dr. Hewlett Johnson as a “singularly foolish person.” Mr. Menzies said he thought the greatest misfortune attending Dr. Johnson’s visit to Australia was the amount of publicity he had received. Mr. Menzies had been asked if he had seen a report that the “Red Dean” advocated handing over northern Australia to the Chinese and people like the Japanese. Mr. Menzies, in reply, said he had noted views attributed to the dean. They were completely in line with those he had expressed from far back as 1934 and 1935.
