Sales Of Tickets In Legal Lotteries Overseas Not Banned

WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA).— The Gaming Amendment Act, 1949, does not make illegal the selling by agents or the purchasing of overseas lottery tickets, providing the lottery concerned is legal overseas. This is an official view given in Wellington today.

The view is taken that the Act was designed to prohibit the sale of tickets in illegal lotteries and the word "illegal” was deliberately inserted in th ■' Act before the word "lottery” to make it clear the Act did not apply to overseas lotteries that were legal overseas.
