CITY BAKERS WILL HAVE TO BAKE LARGE BATCHES OF BREAD FOR HOLIDAYS

The closing of shops for four days at both Christmas and the New Year means that city bakers will have to make big batches of bread to meet the needs oi their customers. They expect that there will be ample bread on sale to enable everyone to stock up for the holidays, but their task of copinn; with the demand will be no enviable one. Some bakeries will begin baking for the week-end on Thursday and will bo working almost continuously until late on Friday in order to cope with the demand expected. The demand for bread is always heavy at Christmas, as many people secur e extra supplies to take away with them for the holidays. The New Year demand is expected to be lighter. The main problem for th e housewife to solve will not be how much bread to buy so much as how to keep it fresh for four days. Various methods of keeping bread fresh over a long period are used by housewives who will have the experience of the similar long break of last year to guide them.
