Christ's College made 195 in their first innings. It was dour batting against a fairly accurate but far frorr hostile attack. At one stage the home team looked to be set for a big score but good bowling by R. E. Buckman, who took five wickets for 34 runs oil 10 overs, brought about a collapse Wanganui showed how fast the wicket was by scoring 202 runs in 145 minutes. The fielding was generally good The match will be concluded today R. C. Whyte made a bright 34 fol Christ's College.

Wanganui, which began their first innings at 3.20 p.m., scored at a rate of just more than one a minute up to the tea adjournment at 3.45 p.m., at which time the score was 32. The openers, D. B. Kettle, the captain, and B. G. Hamilton, tried to make every shot a scoring one, and the first 50 was brought up in 30 minutes. Kettle was the more forceful of the two. He played some beautiful leg glances. These two players have already had a double century partnership in the Wanganui Senior B grade competition. When the score was 77 Kettle hit a fine six well past the boundary at long off. Just when these two players seemed likely to make a big score Hamilton was clean bowled by Gibson after he had made 46 in 60 minutes.

Two more wickets fell quickly. J. H. Giesen lasted only a few minutes to make a single, and Kettle was stumped. What had been one for 93 had changed to three for 95. The hundred was brought up in 75 minutes. The next wicket fell when the score was 128 G. L. Hare being caught in the slips off Morrison’s bowling. D. G. Hamilton, a twin brother of the opening batsman, continued to put on runs at a good rate with the new batsman, P. G. Gunson, until the latter went lbw. From five for 138 Hamilton and R. E. Buckman took the score to 196 five minutes before time. Scores were Christ’s College First Innings. G. C. Beadel, b Collins 9 D. W. Crowe b Kettle 54 R. C. Whyte,’b Young 34 J. G.
