Young Woman’s Suicide
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA)—An inquest into the death of Jean Ivy Robbins, aged 26, .single, whose body with a .22 rifle beside it was found in the backyard of a house in Waimauku on November 14, was concluded before the coroner (Mr Addison).
A verdict of suicide was returned. Frederick Mayes, bushfeller, laid Miss Robbins and her mother had lived with him at his home at Waimauku for about 16 months. On the evening of November 13 Iw.p friends visited witness’s home and a party was held, during which six bottles of home brew and a bottle of honey mead were drunk. Miss Robbins later became upset because she
thought her mother, who had been absent during the day, had returned and had heard some remarks which had been made about deceased’s brother.
Detective-Sergeant Holmes said he was satisfied the home brew liquor which Miss Robbins had consumed shortly before her death had contributed to the state of mind that resulted in her action.
