AMATEUR STATUS BOND GUESTION FOR BOXERS UNSETTLED
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— After two and a-half hours discussion in committee tonight the vexed question of the New Zealand Empire Games boxers signing a bond of amateur status for two years after the Games was still unsettled. The New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association executive committee, at its meeting tonight, retired into committee at 7.45 p.m. At 9.40 p.m. they released the following statement:
“After a full discussion, final consideration of the matter was postponed pending a conference with representatives of the New Zealand Boxing Association.”
The meeting was called as the result of a statement by Mr. J. R. Simpson, chairman of the New Zealand Boxing Council, who said the council would not ask boxers to sign a two year amateur bond, as required by the Olympic Association.
