MANAWATU AND HUTT VALLEY HAWKE CUP CRICKET MATCH
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA). —Two of the most powerful minor associations in New Zealand, Hutt Valley and Manawatu, met in the first Hawke Cup cricket fixture of the season in Hutt today. Hutt Valley set llheir opponents a big task in compiling 496, but Manawatu, strengthened by the former Wellington representative, H. F. Rice, got away to a useful start with 30 runs without loss. On a fast wicket some sparkling batting was seen, with R. J. Kemp adding another century to his string of big scores in minor association matches. J. R. Reid compiled a fast 65, which included a glorious six. Rice took two splendid catches in the slips. Hutt Valley 496 (R. J. Kemp 112, J. Reid 65, I. Brennan 65, G. Drylie 61, K. Anderson 56, C. A. Muir 39, J. Coulston 29. McVicar took two for 12, Dean two for 83, Collis two for 112, Kendall two for 132). Manawatu. 30 for no wicktts (McVicar 10 not out).
