Wife of New Zealand’s Prime Minister Elect
Mrs Holland, wife of the National Party’s leader, was formerly Miss Florence Drayton. She is the daughter of the late Mr A. F. Drayton, manager for many years of the Christchurch hardware firm of Ashby, Bergh and Co. Her brother, Mr Roy Drayton, married Mr Holland’s sister. Mrs Holland takes a keen interest in politics, but her chief interest has always been centred upon her home and family. Their home at 74 Derby Street, St. Albans, is a modest storey-and-a-half bungalow, comfortably but unpretentiously furnished. At the North Canterbury farm, Greta Paddock, on the banks of the Hurunui River, which Mr Holland bought in 1939, they live at one end of the shearers’ quarters, where Mr Holland, in the role of handyman, made alterations to make the place suitable for occupation by the family during their holidays and week-ends at the farm. The main residence on the property is occupied by the farm manager. Mrs Hollands principal relaxation is bridge, which she plays regularly, once a week. Apart from her own family, she has an additional interest these days in her two lively grandchildren.
