Reception Centre At Pahiatua To Close Next Week
The reception and training centre for displaced persons at Pahiatua will be closed on Tuesday. It will be 20 weeks since 950 people from Europe arrived in Wellington in the Dundalk Bav from Trieste. Tn that time they have been given training, necessary to introduce them to life in New Zealand, found accommodation by the Labour and Employment Department and those fit for work have been placed in jobs. Nine hundred more single immigrants from the United Kingdom will leave for New Zealand on November 25 when the Atlantis * sails from Southampton. She is expected to arrive in Wellington in the second week in January. The group will consist of people selected in the same way as previous groups which have come out in the Atlantis, and will include some men recruited for the Forces. A further 22 children brought out under the child immigration scheme will arrive by the Rimutaka. which is due at Auckland from London on November 19.
