NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT CONDUCT OF ROAD RACE FOR MOTOR-CYCLES

That he had attended the motorcycle road race at the Labour Day week-end and was pleased at the efficient manner in which it was conducted was reported to yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui County Council by Cr. T. Thwaites. He had spoken to a number of ratepayers along the route of the race and no one had complained to him of the closing of the road Tribute was also paid to the manner in which paper which littered the roads after the race had been cleaned up. Traffic Inspector W. Wilson report-, ed that no complaints had been made. “The circuit was well cleared of rubbish and I understand that arrangements have been made to repair all damage to fences,” reported the inspector. “On inspection of the roads after the meeting, I found them to be in excellent condition.’’ Although 22 motor-cyclists were given traffic notices, none was a competitor in the race and most of them did not belong to a club but were just visitors and making a nuisance of themselves. All the conditions imposed by the council were carried out and only on one occasion were there words by a motorist on the closing of the road. Inspector Wilsons aid that no complaints had been received regarding the conduct of the hill climb on Labour Day.
