AWAPUNI CANDIDATES FOR SATURDAY’S RACES
PALMERSTON N., Last Night (Special). Many Awapuni horses raced on Saturday and the programme this morning, when horses engaged at Feilding and Napier Park were given their semi-final trials, was a comparatively lignt one. The gallops took place on the trial grass, where the going was not fast. Blank Cheque (J. Harris) was worked over a mile with the pace on for the last three in 4C-. He ran the last six in 1.24. Playtos (W. J. Broughton) also went a mile, being joined by Serrano Inear the half-mile. Playtos came home from the five in 1.8 2-5, the last three in 41, and he was keen to go on with it. Lord Holland (A. Temperton) worked over a mile ano was timed to run the last seven in 1.36 4-5. The pace was on from the five, from which peg he was home in 1.7, the last three in 39 4-5. He is to race at Napier Park and Temperton will ride him. Later, Gratuity (B. Wood), paced for the first five by Sonia (Gunn) and for the last three oy a Revelation gelding (D. Harris), ran a mile in 1.48 3-5. The pace was sound all through, the first five being run in 1.8 3-5 and the last three in 40. Gratuity is to race in the Manchester Handicap at Feilding and she should give a good account ot herself. Silver Sam (W. L. Aitken) worked well over seven in 1.36, the last three in 40 2-5. . Imperial (G. R. Tattersail) sprinted six in 1.23 4-5, the last three in 40 2-5. Balcairn (Aitken) was just in front of Ngarobi (M. Thurston) at the end of six in 1.23, last three in 41. Red Flight (Tattersall) and Confess (Thurston) ran their six in 1.23 3-5. Servile (J. Harris) sprinted five in 1.4 2-5, the last three in 39 2-5. It was one of the best trials of the morning over the distance. La Modelle (Tattersal.) took 1.5 3-5, the last three in 40 3-5. Voltaic (Tattersall) beat Koala (Wood) by a length over five in 1.5, the last three in just better than 40. Horses to school well included Ensign and The Reiver.
