King’s Ransom May Have Been “Nobbled” For Flemington Race

SYDNEY, Nov. 7. The Sydney “Sun’s” racing correspondent states from Melbourne that King s Ransom is believed to have been “got at” before the running of the Melbourne Cup at Flemington last Tuesday. King’s Ransom, who carried topweight, finished second to last in the Cup field of 31. The only horse behind him was another New Zealander, Lord Revel, who bled and walked past the post. Mr H. V. Lunken, owner of King’s Ransom, said today before he left for

New Zealand that he was sorry he did not have a swab taken after the Cup, as the horse was net normal. Jockey W. Cook, who rode King’s Ransom in the Cup, said:: “He ran his race before the start. He collapsed badly about half a mile from home and went past the post at little more than a strong canter. There was something wrong, but I am not in a position to say whether the horse was nobbled.” Mr Lunken said that the horse’s condition after the Melbourne Cup contrasted greatly with his appearance after the C. B. Fisher Plate.
