Sir Arthur Donnelly To Retire From The Cricket Presidency
CHRISTCHURCH. Yesterday (PA). —Sir Arthur Donnelly announced last evening that he intended to retire next week from the position of president of the New Zealand Cricket Council. Speaking at a function held last evening to welcome the Christchurch members of the cricket team which toured Britain recently, Sir Arthur said he was glad to be able to finish his administrative career in Canterbury, where he had begun it.. The retirement of Sir Arthur will end an association with cricket administration in New Zealand which has covered a period of 37 years. He was a member of the Now Zealand Cricket Council continuously from 1912 to 1937. Apart from the war years, he was chairman front 1928 until 1937, and in tnat capacity accompanied the New Zealand cricket team which went to England in 1931. On his retirement after 25 years’ service he w.x elected a lite member of the council. He was elected president of the council last year.
