Higgs was the guest speaker—her topic "The Cultural Side of Home Life.’’ Most people, said Mrs Higgs, have ideas of an ideal home tucked away in their minds, we must decide what we mear by culture —it could be described, perhaps, as a deep-rooted love of beauty and the best things in life —something that is caught and not taught—sc that parents could do a great deal tc influence their children. Beauty i: an important part of life and wt members of the Mothers’ Union as Christian women should make an effort to help with all ventures to improve the cultured life of this town In olden days, it was the church thai kept all these ideals alive. Most smal children are naturally artistic—some how later on, many seem to grow oul of it—perhaps they are not encouraged enough by their parents, wh< should encourage any latent talen' they see in their children. Everj child and grown up too, should hav< a hobby. Every member should tr; to make the home beautiful and lei children do things to make their owr rooms beautiful, have their own gardens etc., so that home becomes a place where their chief plddSOVe and happiness is found. Mothers must teaci their children good taste, which is s tremendous gift and is the expressior of a cultured mind. They must be careful of their time and choose things they want to do most. Mea time should be a time of conversation specially the evening meal whei there is more leisure and conversatior can be passed round. Christianity ii for the whole of life. ■ “In everythin) ve are enriched by Him." Mrs. Tutt; and Mrs. Lambert thanked Mrs Higg for her most refreshing talk ant presented her with flowers.
