RANGITIKEI COUNTY EXPENDITURE EXCEEDS ESTIMATED AMOUNT

MARTON, Last. Night (SR).—With five months of the current financial year yet to go, the Rangitikei Countj Council has over-expended its estimates for road maintenance by £5576 and the debit balance, now standing at £64,605, continues to show an increase. This was disclosed at the monthly meeting in Marton today when the county clerk, Mr F. L. Nicol, produced a statement of accounts as at November 3, and details of expenditure on load maintenance, compared with the estimated amounts. “The overdraft is creeping up ah the time," said Mr Nicoi. “Though I have not taken out comparative figures, it is up a few thousands on this time last year.” The gap between the estimates for road maintenance and actual expenditure was lessening, and today it was £5576, compared with £801)0 a tew months ago. “We ?re catching up on this,” said the county clerk. There would be only three more ordinary meetings of the council before the end of the financial year, and it appeared that the county would he sailing rather close Io the wind, though it was difficult to say at this stage what the position would be. The county clerk’s statement showed that the estimate foi road expenditure for the year was £59,975, or £34,984 for the first seven months. Of this, £41,56(1, or £5576 above the estimates, had been expended.
