GUARANTEED PRICE FOR WOOL EXPECTED
IN BRITAIN NEXT YEAR
LONDON, Nov. 3 (Recd. 6 pm).— British sheep farmers expect a guaranteed price for wool as from May, 1950.
Under a wool marketing scheme recently submitted to the Ministry of Agricultur e by the National Farmers’ Union, it is proposed that a guaranteed price for fleece wool each season should be negotiated by the Farmers’ Union every spring, and that the Government should guarantee this average price for all wool clipped in that year, together with an allowance for marketing costs. Minimum price** would a lso be negotiated for four year periods. It is estimated that the annual va!u e of United Kingdom wool is £6,600,000 at present prices. Parliamentary approval of the scheme has yet io be granted. -Special N.Z.P.A. Correspondent.
