SANDY'S CORNER
MOOT POINT. Dear “Sandy," The way things are In the British Parliament today we wonder whether we ought to castigate I Guy Fawkes on Saturday tor his eflfort, or for his failure,—Yours, Pioneer, You have raised a moot point. Anlother that is troubling us is whether I Guy Fawkes Day should be Monday|ised. Most other occasions of note have been so dealt with, and we feel that Guy ought to be socialised along with the rest of civilisation.—“S." ATTENTION CRICKETERS. We direct the attention of all Wanganui and district cricketers to the warning contained in the cable message about a six hit by a player in a Manchester Club. The ball hit a Miss Stone and the litigation from that hit may end up in the House of Lords. Reading between the lines there appears to be some difference of opinion as to whether men who hit sixes are a menace to the community, or that the community should know that some batsmen are liable to hit sixers, and take precautions accordingly. It would be a pity, we think, to rule that no sixers can be hit. And we can't quite see any precautionary laws being made effective. Perhaps, if a Wanganui team is batting, for instanceand there is a player fiable to make a few “sixers," they could give their waiting batsmen something to do by placing them with red flags at danger points—Nelson Street, St. Hill Street, Wilson Street, perhaps down by the Alexandra Band room. If the House of Lords rules that Miss Stone has a right to damages for being hit on the head, cricket associations and clubs will have to sit up and take notice. We won't make any charge for the red flag idea. We offer it as a possible solution!
