Napier Intermediate Pupils Will Visit Wanganui Next Week

Fifty pupils from the Napier Intermediate School will visit Wanganui from November 8 to November 10. The two schools alternate visits every year, though the regularity of the exchange has been upset in recSnt years because ot the war and the poliomyelitis epidemic. The Napier pupils will arrive on Tuesday, November 8, and will be billeted with pupils of the Wanganui Intermediate School. The next day t hey will he formally welcomed by the Mayor (Hon. W. J. Rogers. M.L.C.). the secretary of the Wanganui Education Board (Mr. G. N. Boulton) and the chairman and members of the school committee. During the visit the pupils will be taken on a sight-seeing tour of the city, and a social evening will be held. The party will depart on their return to Napier on the Thursday.

Sports Postponed. Because of heavy rain, and not wishing to cause any damage to Cook’s Gardens, the members of the Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club postponed its twilight sports meeting last night. The programme as scheduled will now takeplace on Monday night at 5.45 p.m.

Election Issue. The issue at the forthcoming general election was a simple one, said x. Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanga- | nui, when he spoke in the Opera House last night. It was whether the county was going to continue the progressive legislation of the past 14 years or was it going to destroy all that had been gained and revert to the conditions which prevailed before the Labour Government was returned to power. He felt sure, however, that the people would not give the National Party an opportunity of putting its policy into practice.
