Immense Undeveloped Resources Of Empire Await Cultivation

LONDON, Nov. 2 (Recd. 7.15pm). Development of trade with the Empire to restore Britain’s economic position was advocated by Mr. Harry Yates, president of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, at a recent meeting.

Undeveloped resources of the Empire were immense and vast markets awaited cultivation, he declared. While doing everything to further co-operation with Europe, nothing should be done that would in any way lessen Britain’s trade with the Empire or weaken Empire links. These had stood the test of two wars, and Empire preference had been of incalculable benefit to Britain in the years before the war. Mr. Yates added that economy cuts were no solution of Britain's problems. —Special Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.
