H.M.S. AMETHYST BACK HOME

LONDON, Nov 1 (Recd 12.2 am).— To the welcoming cheers of large crowds on Plymouth Hoe and ships’ sirens, HMS Amethyst steamed into Plymouth Sound today. Amethyst was flying a pay-off pennant and will undergo refit before returning to the Far East manned by a fresh crew.

The First Lord of the Admiralty, Viscount Hall, said Amethyst justified the British people’s implicit faith in the Navy, whose steadfastness, initiative and courage today were great as at any period in the past.
