I NEW YORK, Oct 1 (Recd 8 pm).— . New Zealand urged the United Nations today to facilitate its efforts for unification of Korea. Mr. Foss Shanahan, New Zealand delegate told the Ad Hoc, or second, political committee of the General Assembly, discussing th e problem of in--1 dependence of Korea, that the situa- , tion on the border between North and : South Korea was extremely explosive, and might develop into an open military conflict. He said: “The United [ Nations must press on with all efforts l to facilitate unification of Korea and Ito request th e parties directly con- | cerned, to co-operate in bringing I about this unification.”

Mr. Shanahan spoke in support of a joint resolution submitted by the United States, China, Australia and the Philippines, calling for continuation of the United Nations Commission on Korea and a strengthening of its power.
