ARAMOHO FOUR-OAR CREW SELECTED FOR THE EMPIRE GAMES

WELLINGTON, July 25.—Preliminary selections for the Empire Games have been announced by the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association’s sole selector, Mr. A. Ross. In advising the association of the selections Mr. Ross states that he wishes to emphasise two points: (1) That the selections are preliminary only, and, as such, may be varied ‘in any way which may prove desirable in the point of view of the sole selector; (2) that the names of further men as emergencies or replacements will be announced later, but in the meantime it is necessary for each local association to inform the New Zealand Council immediately whether each of the men listed is available for final selection.

Preliminary selections are:—Scullers: T. Hegglun (Wairau), R. J. McCarten (Petone), J. Schneider (Aramoho) and D. Simonson (Aramono) with a coach to be appointed. Oarsmen: For the eight-oared crew, T. G. Engel, K. Ashby, W. Tinnock, M. Ashby, D. Rowlands, G. Jarratt, B. Culpon and E. Smith (All West End); coacn, Eric Craies, with a coxswain to be appointed. For the four-oared crew: E. Johnson, J. O’Brien, W. James and W. Carroll (all Aramoho); coach, Doug. Holmes, with a coxswain to be appointed. Pair-oared crew: D. Gould and H. Gould (both Avon) with a coach to be appointed.
