Technical Old Boys Beat Marist; All Points Scored In The First Spell

Failing to reproduce the form which enabled them to defeat Pirates the previous week, Marist were defeated by 11 points to nil, by Technical Old Boys on the Racecourse on Saturday. All the winner's points were scored in the first half of the game. In the second session of play Marist defended more ably than they did in the first and prevented their opponents from adding to their points tally. On the other hand, the greens never looked like an attacking force strong enough to penetrate the coveting defence of the men opposing them. The teams were:—Technical Old Boys: R. Webby, M. In a scrambling movement the Technical forwards drove the green jerseyed players to their twenty-five.

Her e a scrum went down and the ball was heeled to J. Barnett. The backs moved forward with the ball in possession and A. Webby scored after good supporting play by Aubrey and McPhail. The kick failed—Technical Old Boys 3, Marist 0. Lamont (Marist) was injured and h e left the field and was being replaced by J. Kenny. With Technical more than holding the green pack, [they were consistently on attack, and • the greens were having a strenuous ltim e in halting the Technical backs, who were being well catered for by the enterprising Barnett, at half-back. Before the interval A. Webby kicked a penalty goal, and McPhail scored a try which was converted by A. Webby. In the second half, Marist three times got within striking distance of the Technical line but the necessary finish was lacking. Better tackling by | the greens in this half held Technical lin check, and prevented them from 'scoring further points. In the last 20 minutes Technical Old - Boys lost Aubrey, who was replaced |by B. Willacy, and Marist lost the seri vices of Olliver, w’ho was replaced by IR. Martin. The final score was Techi nical Old Boys 11, Marist 0.
