London Dockers Recommend Resumption Of Work

LONDON, July 22 (Recd. 12.26 am). —The London dockers’ lockout committee recommended a resumption of work on Monday. The president of the Canadian Seamen's Union. Mr Harry Davies, told a meeting of 7000 dockers that the strike was not a planned conspiracy directed by the Kremlin. He added that the responsibility for the strike restes entirely with the Canadian shipowners and the antiLabour Canadian Government. Mr Davies told the meeting: “We feel it would be proper, in the wider interests of English dockers and the people of England, that Canadian seamen make a gesture which, even if it involves suffering for themselves, will enable work to begin in the London docks.” A meeting of several hundred strikers at the West India Dock this morning decided, after being addressed by the Transport and General Workers’ Union officials, to resum* work on Monday.
