Truman’s Plan To Aid Atlantic Treaty Powers
WASHINGTON, July 21 (Kecd. 6pm).—President Truman is expected to send to Congress a 1,450,000,000-doliar programme for military aid to the signatories of the Atlantic Treaty, and to certain other countries.
Mr Truman’s plan to enable Western European countries to build up their military strength against any threat of aggression follows ratification of the treaty by the Senate. It is generally expected there will be far greater opposition to the arms proposals than to ratification of the treaty. However- the Administration is already committed in an exchange of Notes with the North Atlantic Powers to support the passage of such arms programme.
