Speedsters At Curl’s Bridge, Near Marton, Causing A.A. Concern

Speedsters on the Curl’s Bridge road in the Rangitikei are causing furrowed brows in the Wanganui Automobile Association executive because members are still unable to decide how most effectively to warn reckless drivers of the risks they take. Chief Patrol J. Stone said most accidents at the bridge were caused by drivers taking the corner too fast and not observing the right-hand rule. A member said that elaborate signs giving warning of dangers that existed only where reekness driving was involved was pandering to bad driving. “But you’ve got to pander to bad driving in the interests of safety,’’ said Dr. E. E. Porritt. Several suggestions were made for lhe type of sign that should be erected but no agreement was reached and the matter was referred to the Roads Committee.
