Dog Trials Will End This Afternoon Or Tomorrow Morning
After bleak weather in the morning, conditions were favourable yesterday afternoon when the final event, the short head and yard championship, was continued at the New Zealand and North Island sheen dog trials on Mr. J. Shannon’s property, There was less mud yesterday as the result of three days of dry weather and conditions generally were favourable for the large crowd of spectators, which included a number of city residents. Two well-known district dogs gave good exhibitions yesterday in the short head and may figure prominently later in the event. They were Mr. H. H. Harris’ (Taihape) “General Haig,” who has achieved championship wins in Australia and New Zealand, and Mr. R. O. White’s (Maxwell) well-known “Queen,” which has won many heading events. There is a possibility that the seven dogs to have a second run for the New Zealand championship may be known late in the afternoon today and will run-off tomorrow morning. If the events run smoothly and there are no delays, there is even a chance of the event being concluded today.
