WASHINGTON, May 31 (Recd 7.5 pm).—A total of 1,259,081 miners had been maimed, mangled or killed in American coalpits during the last 19 years, John L. Lewis, United Mineworkers’ Union president, told the Senate Labour sub-committee. He added that during the first two years of the Second World War coalmine casualties exceeded those in the armed services.
