COMMUNIST MAYOR OF SHANGHAI
SHANGHAI, May 30 (Recd 8 pm). - General Chenyi, whose troops captured Shanghai, has assumed post as Mayor and head of the people's city Government. Chenyi has had a brilliant career in public administration and military service since his return from Franc at the end of the First World War. Support for the Communists is pledged by members of .366 labour organisations in a manifesto distributed yesterday. It appealed for an early resumption of industrial production and the reopening of business enterprises and schools.—Reuter.
