WANGANUI HARRIER CLUB’S HANDICAP RACE WON BY TAYLOR
Running over a course comprising sand of Castleclitt beach, flat country and road with a distance of foul’ miles, the Wanganui Harrier Club conducted its first handicap race ol the season when It ran from the Castlecliff beach sheds. Both seniors and juniors ran together, but points counted separately .or the Excelsior and Alstair Rose Cups. New members showed up well, three of these being in the first four places, one of which was the colt, L. Moodie, who ran a good race tor his first. The winner, R. Taylor, made use of his handicap by his long stride, and for a junior first year runner he should go far in later races. J. Burnett showed a return to his past form by annexing fastest time, and despite not having a previous race this year, his training has stood him in good stead. Another runner to show really good form was Evan Reu, who has made rapid progress since the beginning of last season, and by filling 10th. place on Saturday he was able to annex fourth place lor lime.
