N.Z. NEWSPAPERS PROFIT SETS RECORD.
Net profit of New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd., for the year ended March 31 increased by £7253 to the record figure £62,944. Dividend, unchanged at 8 per cent (Is. 4d. a share), requires £39,833, and a bonus of 2 per cent. (4d. a share), absorbs £9959. Carry-forward is increased by £13,152 to £66.699. After general expenses, gross profit from newspapers and publication was £204,832, an increase of £10,656. Depreciation, taxes, machinery, obsolescence, stock reserve and other expenses rose by £3549 to £153,303. The sum of £lOOO was added to machinery obsolescence reserve during the year, bringing it to £60,000.
