His Honour warned Hannan that, if he did not turn from his criminal ways he would end up as an habitual criminal. Hannan has had 31 previous convictions. 15 of them for breaking, entering and theft, or receiving stolen goods. A plea for leniency was advanced by Mr. G. Crossley, counsel for the prisoner. He submitted that a majority of Hannan's previous convictions were for minor offences or petty dishonesty and that they were i not a scries of serious offence.;. 'Phe I prisoner had not been before the I Court for a serious offence since 1944. He was a hard worker and while engaged in the bush gave no trouble. 11 was when he was in town and mixed with the wrong type of people that he got himself into trouble.
