INVESTITURE OF BOY SCOUTS AT OHAKUNE
An event, which added greatly to the interests of Scouting took place in the Ohakune Scout Hall on Saturday, April 30, when a large number of boys were invested as Scouts of the Ist. Ohakune Troop. The officiating Scouters were District Commissioner Howat, Scoutmaster Tilsley and Lone Rover McDonald, of Karioi. After a “fall in" and inspection of Girl Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs by Scouting officials, the invested Scouts formed a horseshoe. As each boy became an invested Scout he took his place beside his brother Scouts in this norseshoe formation. A welcome was given to all by Scoutmaster Tilsley. He expressed his pleasure in seeing so many present, and the interest taken in the work by the boys. District Commissioner Howat also gave a very interesting talk in which he stated that he would like to see more interest taken in the movement by parents. Scoutmasters and their assistants were doing a solid job of work and were worthy of some encouragement. In his advice to Scouts he wished them to remember they were still Scouts although not in uniform, and to do their best at all times. Scouts then gave their haka. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Assistant-Scoutmasters R. Hurley and K Edwards. Games were indulged in until supper time and some very amusing competitions held.
A feature of the evening was the very nice supper prepared and served entirely by Boy Scouts. A fitting anding to a delightful evening. It is hoped to hold a “Badge” evening in the near future, to be run on the same lines
