WANGANUI A RIFLE TEAM RUNNER-UP IN SENIOR TEAMS MATCH
The Wanganui A rifle team was runner-up to Ashhurst A in the senior teams match of the Wanganui-Mana-whenua National Rifle Association District Union inter-club teams match held on the Fitzherbert East Range, on Saturday. Ashhurst hold the Bushby-Parke Cup for 1949. In the junior teams match AsJthurst No. 1 and No. 2 teams were placed first and second respectively. The No. 1 team holds the Farley Cup for 1949. The best rifle scores at 300yds were 49s by riflemen R. A. Jones and A. R. Symons (A grade, Ashhurst), A. M. Haynes (Apiti) and R. K. McLeavey (Ashhurst) junior. At 600yds 47s were the best, riflemen J. B. Searle (Ashhurst) and J. L. Graham (Levin) A grade and J. S. W. Hensen (Ashhurst), P. Cowlishaw (Linton), M. F. Fletcher (Levin) junior. A 47 each at 300yds by riflemen J. C. Andrew and G. Catley of Massey College team were very good, these two members making top scores for there team. At the end of the day's shooting the trophies were presented to the winners by tire district president, Mr. F. J. Soler (Wanganui Rifle Club). He congratulated the Ashhurst club on its success, and commended the lin e shooting of three lady shooters. He also referred to the enthusiasm of the Massey College team. Mr. Soler acknowledged th e work of all who had worked so hard for the success of the meeting, mentioning in particular the work of Mr. R. A. Jones, the secretary.

Hansen, 4«— 45—91; P. H. McLeavey, 46—44—90; Total: 237—225—462. Wanganui A: —Miss Y. Anderson, 48—44—92; R. Shaw, F. J. Soler, 46—44—90; L. Soler, 46 43—89; M. Jones, 44—41—85; Total: 230—216—446. JUNIOR MATCH The scores of the first t'.vo teams in the Junior match are as follows: — Ashhurst No. I:—J. S. W. Henson, 48—47—95; J. McNeill. 47-45-92; R. K. McLeavey, 49—43—92; H. J: Newport, 45—42—87; J. Monks, 44 42—86; Total: 233—219—452. Ashhurst No. 2:—C. W. Turner 48— 45—83; Mrs. R. A. Jones, 45—44—89; T. C. Romley, 46—43—89; C. F. Carlick, 43—43—86; N. A. Jones, 45 41—86; Total: 227—216—443. In the junior teams match Turakina No. 1 was 7th. Wanganui No. 1, 9th, Turakina No. 3, 11th, and Wanganui No. 2, 14th.
