Waverley’s April Meeting The president, Mrs. Stinson, presided at the monthly meeting of the Waverley Woman’s Institute held on April 26th and, welcomed a good attendance of members, including three new members. Two members received gifts from the birthday box, and were accorded musical honours. Mrs. D. Hughes won The wandering shilling. it was gratifing to report eleven tins of fat, had been forwarded to date, to the Food for Britian Appeal stated th e president. Mrs. Lupton (voting), and Mrs. G. Milne (reporting) were the delegates to the annual council meeting of the Wanganui District Federation of Women’s institutes. Mrs. Stinson has been elected to the executive committee. Mrs. Hillmer very capably demonstrated to members the art of wreath making, which was appreciated very much by all. The hostesses Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. G. Milne served a very dainty afternoon tea. The competitions proved very popular with members, in on e section, the collection of jams having 15 entries, while the premier bloom had 18 entries. , Results of competitions:—Knitted tea cosy: Mi's. G. Milne 1, Mrs. O’Leary 2, Mrs. Lupton 3. Collection of jams: Mrs. Lupton 1, (20 varieties), Mrs. Milne 2, (19 varieties), Mrs. Stinson 3, (17 varieties). Premier bloom: Mrs. Aiken 1, Mrs. Slater 2. Miss D. Clover 3. Shrub; Miss A. Davis 1, Mrs. Lupton 2, Mrs. Copeland 3. Makirikiri At the April meeting, Mrs. Clemance presided, and welcomed all present. Correspondence was read and discussed, also considered wer e the remits to the Council meeting. Delegates appointed were Mrs. Farley (reporting) and Mrs. Hedges (voting;. After business was disposed of, Mrs. Farley senr., gave a very interesting talk on on a trip to numerous Islands. Afternoon tea was enjoyed. Competition for next months meeting: Sugar bag mat, 3 jars jam, 6 chrysanthemums and best flower. Competition results were: —Head of flowers: Mrs. Clemance 1 and 2, Mrs. Jardine 3. Single: Mrs. Hedges 1, Mrs. Bason 2, Mrs. Clemance 3. Bowl of flowers: Mrs. Clemance 1, Mrs. Howard 2, Mrs. Bason 3. Pikelets: Mrs. Hedges 1, Mrs. Howard junr. 2. Turakina

The April meeting of the Turakina W.I. was held in St. Andrews Hall on the 21st, when Mrs. Perry presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Flyger welcomed a guest from Edgecombe W.1., Eastern Bay of Plenty, Mrs. La Lievere, who very ably judged the various competitions. The minutes were read and arrangements were made t for transport for delegates and several members to the Federation meeting in Wanganui. Members were reminded to bring small pots of jam to be entered for the group competition and afterwards to he distributed among patients of the Wanganui Hospital. Birthday party invitations to members, were received from Marton Junction W.I. and Hunterville W.I. A motion was carried that Turakina W.I. enter the programme competition to be held at Headquarters in Wellington. The Dominion president’s monthly letter from “Home and Country” was read. A most instructive and interesting demonstration was given by Mrs. Knox, on the making of floor mons from wool unravelled from old knitted garments. Results of competitions were:— Mantle vase: Mrs. Major 1, Mrs. Hirst 2. Mrs. Perry 3. Prettiest cake plate: Mrs. Flyger' 1, Mrs. Wischnowsky 2, Mrs. Hirs-t 3. Premier bloom: Mrs. Lumsdon 1, Mrs. Wischnowsky 2, Mrs. Keohane3. The travelling shilling was won by Mrs. Card. ’ The meeting for May will be an open afternoon, and a bring and buy stall will be held, when the proceeds will be donated to the fund for the Dominion headquarters to be opened in Wellington. The National Anthem was sung bringing a pleasant afternoon to a close. Mosston Mrs. Symon, the ne v president, presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Mosston W.I. It was decided to continue sending food \ arcels to the Mosston Link Institutes in England. In the past these parcels have proved very appreciative. The Dominion president’s letter was read from Home and Country by the secretray. A card party is to be held at Mrs. Denman’s home at the end of May, while the Singing and Drama Circle is holding an afternoon in the hall on the last Tuesday in May. The mystery parcel was won by Mrs. Scars. Mesdames Simmons, Cann and Hughes received birthday gifts. A very good selection and quantity of jams was received for hospital distribution. It was decided to leave the date as at present for the monthly meetings. This is the fourth Tuesday, and arts and crafts to be held the second Thursday each month. A competition held during the afternoon was won by Mrs. Tipper. A group meeting was held during the month, members visiting Virginia Lake, Mrs. Chittick’s gardens, and a social afternoon at Rapanui. Competition results: —Best flower, Mrs. Stilborn 1, Mrs. Simmon* 2, Mrs Gallen 3; sugar bag peg bag, Mrs. Charles 1, Mrs. Gallen 2; sausage rolls, Mrs. Shaw 1, Mrs. Symon 2, Mrs Gallon 3; arts and crafts tatting, Mrs. Symon 1, Mrs. Tipper 2.
