A WANGANUI “MISS N.Z. QUEST ” NOMINEE MAY BE KNOWN TONIGHT

On arrival in Wanganui yesterday, the executive director of the “Miss New Zealand’’ Quest, 1949, Mr. K. W. Kilpatrick, Wellington, said that he was hoping that the Wanganui district .would be represented by at least three or four candidates. Mr. Kilpatrick pointed out that there were three Wanganui candidates in the 1947 Quest when the qualifying fee was £250. Therefoie. more candidates could be expected this time when the qualifying fee is £lOO. Today he will have conferences with several local organisations, and he indicated that the first candidate will be announced in the near future, perhaps tonight. Mr. Kilpatrick said that the Quest was going very well. Many districts not represented last time had nominated candidates in this year’s Quest. This was due, he thought, to the recognition that the Quest is conducted on a very high plane and is a national venture of consequence which any organisation could associate itself. “I dm impressed,” he continued, “with the candidates so far nominated “They are all really splendid and the judges Will certainly Have a difficult task. But all the entrants are just typical New Zealand girls. The) include a stenographer, a shop assistant, a dental nurse, a farmer s daughter,' a telephone operator and a st,Hient. In fact they are just a cross section of the young womanhood of New Zealand. Every important town and citv should be represented in the Quest, because it means Dominionwide publicity for the town as well as lor the sponsoring organisations.
