LAST MONTH WAS WETTEST IN CITY FOR EIGHT YEARS

Last month was the wettest Apr.l recorded in Wanganui for eight years, accord.ng to recordings at the City Council. Rain fell on 16 days and .the total fall for the month was 4.75 inches. The heaviest fall on any on- day was on April 12, when 89in. was recorded. The next heaviest .all was on Apr.l 25, when ,87in. was registered. The total number of hours of sunshine was 184. There were only tw days on which no sunshine was recorded. The mean temperature for last month was 53.4 deg., which compares with 58.5 for the corresponding period last year. Two frosts were recorded, one being 3.9d.eg. below freer, ng point. No frosts were recorded in April last year. APRIL WAS A WET MONTH IN MARTON The amount of rain which has fallen this year is almost twice as much as for 'the corresponding period 12 months ago, accordin’; to records kept by Mr ,K. W. Sandford Marton. To date the rainfall in Marton is 15.12 in. compared with 7.6 in. last year. The rainfall last month was 4.24 in. registered on 15 days as against 2.92'n. for the same period last year. The average for April over the past. 37 years is 3.551 n. The heaviest fall last month was experienced on Anzac Day. when it rained throughout the -lay for a total nt 1.52’n.
