PLUNKET SOCIETY BUILDING DELAYED BY RECENT WAR
WELLINGTON, Last Night (P.A.) —War had delayed the building programme envisaged by the Dominion Council of the Plunket Society and the need to rebuild some, alter and extend other Karitane hospitals was now urgent, states the report of the executive submitted to the Dominion Council “The society is giving great service by admitting small babies and their mothers direct from maternity hospitals, thus relieving the strain on these institutions,” continues the report. “With the phenomenal increase in the birthrate accommodation has been severely taxed and Karitane hospitals have been compelled reluctantly to refuse admission to many babies who would have benefited by a period of residence there. Plans already have been prepared for several Karitane buildings and the council hopes the Government subsidy will be made available to assist the financing of undertakings.”
