SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. W. S. CORBY-COLLAPSE AT BIRTHDAY PARTY

Collapsing at a party arranged on Saturday night in honour of her husband’s 80th birthday. Mrs. W. S. Corby tailed to regain consciousness and died early yesterday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Corby were entertaining friends at the residence of their son, Mr. lan Corby. Mrs. Corby was a devoted wife and mother, and her death, occurring at such a time, came as a very great shock, nol only to her husband and family, but also to their friends. She is survived, in addition to her husband, by two daughters and two sons. The sons are Messrs. lan and Don Corby, both of Wanganui, and the daughters Misses Mabel and Patricia Corby, also of Wanganui. Mr. Corby is one of New Zealand's best-known racing writers. He retired front the literary staff of the Wanganui “Herald” some five years ago after 60 years’ service, during more than 50 of which he was the paper's racing critic. Following his retirement the Wanganui Jockey Club made him a life member in tribute to his work lor the sport. He played Rugby for Wanganui in his younger days and is still a keen bowler. In 1007’ he "covered” the World championship sculling race on the Parematta River, New South Wales, when W. Webb, of Wanganui, won the title from C. Towns.
